What is Troton Master V-PRO Express 4:1?

Troton Master V-PRO Express 4:1 is an extremely fast-drying two-component acrylic primer designed for quick and high-quality automotive refinishing. Thanks to Air Dry technology, the primer dries without oven curing and is ready for sanding in approximately one hour at 20 °C.

V-PRO Express is a versatile primer that can be used both as a high-build, sandable primer and for wet-on-wet applications without intermediate sanding. Its excellent filling properties help level minor sanding scratches and surface imperfections before applying the topcoat.

The primer contains corrosion inhibitors, allowing it to be applied directly to properly prepared steel, aluminium and galvanised surfaces. It provides excellent adhesion to various substrates and stays in place even on vertical surfaces.

Thanks to its fast drying time and versatile application methods, V-PRO Express saves time and energy in both professional body shops and DIY painting projects.

The kit includes 0.8 L of primer, 0.2 L of hardener and 0.5 L of acrylic thinner, providing everything needed in one convenient package.

What can V-PRO Express Primer be used for?

Troton V-PRO Express is suitable for various automotive priming and repair applications.

  • Priming automotive body panels
  • Repairing minor and larger paint damage

How to apply Troton V-PRO Express Primer

  1. Prepare the surface. Thoroughly clean the area to be painted, removing dirt, grease and rust. Sand the surface according to the substrate material and make sure it is completely dry before painting.
  2. Mix the primer. Mix 4 parts primer with 1 part hardener. Add acrylic thinner according to the selected application method:
  3. Sandable primer: 0–5%
  4. Wet-on-wet: 20–30%
  5. Adjust the spray gun.
  6. Sandable application: 1.6–1.8 mm nozzle, 2.0–2.2 bar
  7. Wet-on-wet application: 1.2–1.4 mm nozzle, 2.0–2.2 bar
  8. Apply the primer.
  9. Sandable application: 2 coats
  10. Wet-on-wet application: approximately 1.5 coats
  11. Allow to dry. For sandable applications, the flash-off time between coats is approximately 5–10 minutes. The primer is ready for sanding in approximately one hour at 20 °C. With the wet-on-wet method, the next paint layer can be applied after the appropriate flash-off time without sanding.
  12. Finish the surface. The sandable primer can be dry-sanded using, for example, P360–P500 abrasive paper with a sanding machine. Remove sanding dust and clean the surface before applying the topcoat.

Frequently asked questions about Troton V-PRO Express Primer

How quickly does V-PRO Express dry?

At 20 °C, the sandable primer is ready for sanding in approximately one hour. Drying can be accelerated in a spray booth, reducing the drying time to approximately 10 minutes at 60 °C. Drying time depends on temperature and film thickness.

Does the primer require a separate hardener?

Yes. V-PRO Express is a two-component primer that must be mixed with hardener at a ratio of 4:1. The hardener is included in this kit.

Does the primer need to be thinned?

The amount of thinner depends on the application method. For sandable applications, add 0–5% thinner, and for wet-on-wet applications, add 20–30%. The kit includes 0.5 litres of acrylic thinner.

Can a topcoat be applied directly over V-PRO Express?

Yes. Both 2K topcoats and 1K basecoats can be applied over the primer. With the wet-on-wet method, the topcoat can be applied without sanding the primer.

What is the difference between sandable and wet-on-wet applications?

In a sandable application, a thicker layer of primer is applied, allowed to dry and then sanded smooth before topcoating. In a wet-on-wet application, the primer is applied in a thinner layer, and the topcoat is applied after the appropriate flash-off time without intermediate sanding.
